Saturday evening I took Paisley to the doctor cause she had a fever. Her ears were fine, but the rash on her bum has flared up again. Its a nasty staph infection that keeps reoccurring. She's been to the doctor 4 times for it now within the last several months, and the antibiotics haven't been strong enough to get rid of it completely. Well this time, the infection is causing her to get feverish. The doctor gave me a little stronger dose of antibiotics to treat her with for the next 10 days.
Now, on Monday... she slept until noon. Then I noticed a little bruise by the corner of her eye, and she doesn't want to eat or drink.
Later, she took a nap. When Brandon went in to get her, he knew something was really wrong. Her one eye was about swollen shut. Her whole eye and part of her face is reddish purple and swollen. She had a fever of 102.5, and she was laying in her crib staring off at the wall. She's been staring into space all day, not noticing whats going on around her, which is not like Paisley at all.
We feared that the infection has spread through her body to her head. Brandon gave her a priesthood blessing, and took her to the Urgent Care. The doctor said that's exactly it, the infection has spread to her head and its pretty scary when that happens. They drew her blood to test her white blood cell count and she didn't even notice, she was so out of it. That test came back great, and her oxygen levels are where they should be. The fact that she has a fever is a good sign that her body is trying to fight the infection. They gave her the strongest shot of antibiotics that should instantly take care of it. The nurse said she may be out of it, but this is the most painful shot you can get, so hold her down good. And she did feel that one, screamed for a bit, but then fell asleep while they waited 20 minutes to see if she'd have an allergic reaction. She was OK to come home for the night, and has a doctor appointment the next morning. They will check her blood cell count and oxygen again, and possibly give her another shot.
When she was home, she laid in her crib staring off while we got the rest of the kids to bed. I went in there to hold her and I couldn't help but cry. Of course you worry and pray that she'll get better and not have any lasting effects. I worry about the infection surrounding her eye and whether that can damage her sight. I worry about it being close to her brain. I worry cause I know staph infection has the potential to be fatal. I can't help but rock her and worry.
She woke up in the middle of the night, but didn't have a fever. She is finally drinking something this morning but still doesn't want to eat. Brandon is at the doctor with her now.
