All the kids have been looking forward to General Conference this Fall, cause the last Spring Conference we had our 1st Conference Concession Stand and had a blast with it. The kids take notes while they listened to conference talks and write down the names of the speakers to earn coins to pay for food and snacks at our food stand.
Last week for FHE, I asked the girls to find their spring conference notes they took and we read them again as a family to review and prepare us for this conference. I gave each of them a conference coin for keeping their notes in a safe place for the last 6 months.
I didn't have to remind the girls to take notes this conference at all. As soon as it started I found them on the couch with notebooks in hand ready to take notes! They're awesome! But for the afternoon Sunday session of conference we went on a family drive through Cache Valley while listening to conference on the radio, and the girls took even more notes. We got home late yesterday, so today we're having our Conference Nacho Stand for FHE tonight.
I called the kids in from playing outside and they were excited to see everything on the table. We had scones, honey butter, taco meat, black beans, tortilla chips, cheese Doritos chips, salsa, black olives, jalapenos, sour cream, lettuce, tomatoes, shredded cheese, soda, yogurt popsicles, movie candy boxes, and lots of pumpkin cake with cream cheese frosting. It was like a mini buffet with no rules.
They could eat Navajo tacos, or have a Doritos nacho dinner and save their scones for dessert or breakfast. Everything cost 1 conference coin... for chips, one scone, the meat, each topping, a slice of cake, each cup of soda, etc.
Most of us munched on 2 or 3 plates of food. We all shared our favorite talks from conference with each other, and the older girls read us some of their notes. It's always interesting to hear what talks your kids learn from. For surprise bonus coins, I asked the girls to count every word they wrote and I gave 1st place 3 coins, 2nd place 2 coins, and 3rd place 1 coin extra.
Paisley's favorite part of our Conference Nacho Stand was the shredded cheese and skittles.
We were so stuffed! The kids put their names on popsicles, and claimed slices of cake they bought and other food they couldn't eat tonight so no one else could touch it.
We'll definitely keep this fun tradition going in our family. I'm amazed at how much notes our kids take, it's great.
